Dispute Discussion Request
Some people just do not get along. It could be a break up, a friendship falling out, or a difference in personality, but we want to create a space where both people can coexist in both the community and at events. We encourage all players to resolve their differences outside of game, especially if those differences are due to out-of-game circumstances. However, regular attendees can ask for a discussion with the game’s directors as a last resort.
Dispute Discussion Requests do not replace or circumvent any of the other safer-space standards currently in place. Our policies are informed by Dystopia Rising Live’s policy on corrective actions, as well as the section of the Guide’s Guide devoted to Guiding Experience, specifically pages 14-15.
This Policy’s Intentions
As directors for a chapter of a nationwide LARP, we have two primary, complementary objectives that we are always trying to facilitate and improve upon:
Running exciting and engaging events with smoothness and consistency in operation and frequency
Maintaining a healthy community of players to engage with each other both IC and OOC
Instituting a policy for encouraging a dispute resolution discussion is our preferred method. We prefer this method over washing our hands of any out-of-character dispute between two players and limiting our involvement, which can create a number of issues, including difficulties in scheduling NPC shifts, frustration about being in the same encounters and modules, the spreading of rumors, and general confusion or misunderstanding of how simple “Do not interact” or “No Contact” agreements should be handled by staff or guides.
When you request a discussion
The other parties will be contacted by game staff to begin and, if necessary, schedule a dispute resolution discussion.
All parties will be heard during the discussion, or have their thoughts provided prior to discussion.
The goal is to reach an agreement where events can continue unfettered by the dispute, regardless of whether the dispute itself not be resolved. If the directors cannot facilitate a resolution, then the players will need to determine how they will move forward, either together or individually, in a way that does not interfere with the directors’ primary objectives.
Please Be Aware
This is in no way a legal solution. This option is only available in Dystopia Rising Colorado events and spaces. If you need something more than this, then please strongly consider contacting your local authorities and speak to them about your options.
This option should also not be used to force or coerce an individual into a conversation they are unwilling to have.
