Lion's Camp FAQ

Are there cabins?

Yes, the site has several cabins.  The two main cabins are dormitory style cabins with 27 bunks each. There is additional space for cots as well.  Each of these two cabins contain showers and bathrooms, electricity, and heat.  During the camper season (June-August) these will be the ONLY cabins available to players.  In the Spring and Fall months we have access to additional cabins.

Your parking attendant will be able to answer any questions you might have upon arrival.

Can I reserve a cabin or bunks?

No, DR:CO uses a first come first served system.

Do the cabins have heat or AC?

Yes, the cabins are climate controlled.  Do not touch the thermostats under any circumstances.

Do the cabins have electricity?

Yes!  All cabins have electric outlets.

Can we rearrange the furniture in the cabins?

No, do not rearrange any of the bunks or furniture in the cabins.

(OUT OF TOWNERS) I’m from out of town and I am unable to pack a tent, can I get a spot in a cabin?  Help?

We recommend reaching out to our playerbase on FB or the forums and working with the locals to find a place to stay.  We have limited bunk space but with adequate warning we'll be able to help you find a home in a tent or in a cabin.

I’m a new player and I don’t have much camping equipment.  Help?

If you are a new player and need a place to sleep, please note that in your pre-registration or drop our staff a line. drco.coordinator@gmail.com  Many of our players open up their tents to visitors, and we have some space in the medical cabin for those who are attending their first game.  The more warning you give us, the better off you'll be.

I need to sleep in an OOC area for medical reasons, can you accommodate?

In the event that you need to sleep in an out of character area, we need to know as soon as possible so that we can reserve you a space in one of the cabins set aside for those with medical needs.  Additionally, we require a note from your doctor confirming that you need that uninterrupted sleep but more importantly that you are fit for play Please understand that we utilize this policy for insurance reasons as well as for your safety.  We are limited in our space, so knowing about your medical needs well ahead of time helps us accommodate for all players.  The doctor’s note can be delivered to logistics upon your arrival or emailed to us at drco.coordinator@gmail.com. We ask you also check the medical needs box during pre-registration.

I utilize a CPAP or other machine that is required for sleeping.  Do I need to sleep in the medical cabin?

As long as you are cleared for normal play you do NOT need to sleep in the medical cabin.  All of our cabins come equipped with electricity so you can plug in where-ever.  Please coordinate with those in your cabin upon arrival for bunk locations so that everyone can sleep comfortably.  If you are bringing a CPAP machine we recommend having an extension cable on hand for convenience.

Lion's Camp TENTing INFORMATION

Are there tenting spots?

Yes!  The lower area (you'll see an open field to your left when you arrive) has a large pavilion and open field area that is for our tenters.  Tenters receive 20AP for tenting.

Can I reserve a tent spot?

No, DR:CO uses a first come first served system.  If you are a new player or from out of town, please let the staff know ahead of time so we can help you find a home.  You can also ask your parking attendant upon arrival.

Lion's Camp FOOD INFORMATION

Is there a meal plan?

No, DR:CO does not have a set meal plan, but we have several cooks who will work with you.  Please see our Facebook group for the latest information.  (Food options change from event to event, please join our FB group for the latest information and food opportunities).  Lion's Camp does have an industrial kitchen, so if you want to use it, please coordinate with our Kitchen Marshal, Kim Hagen.

I am not interested in a meal plan, where can I cook?

There is a large fire pit in tent city, and the industrial kitchen is available to players as long as they have the permission and proper coordination with out Kitchen Marshal.  You must pass the Colorado Food Handlers Test (which is $10) in order to cook for a group in the industrial kitchen.  You may also use propane stoves if you provide your own.

Can I have a fire?

Yes, fires in the designated fire pit in tent city is okay, just as long as there are no fire bans.  Lion's Camp has a massive fire pit that will accommodate a very large fire for all to enjoy.

Is there a fire ban and what is a fire ban?

Colorado is prone to forest fires, so during times where fire is more likely fire bans will be issued.  This means that NO campfires may be created.  You may still use camp stoves.  We will post about this ahead of time on Facebook and the Forums, but if you’re curious here’s the site that will tell you - (We are in Jefferson County)

Bears? Mountain Lions? Moose? Should I be concerned?

Lion's Camp is occasionally visited by our furry friends (generally it's a bear or deer lumbering through the site).  The Directors are regularly in contact with the folks who live on the site to know when there have been bear sightings.  In the event there is a (dangerous) wildlife sighting on site, we will utilize an air horn to inform players.  Two long blasts will let you know that wildlife has been sighted, at that time you should calmly make your way towards the Saloon for further instructions.  If you are storing food on site, it's recommended that said food is hung 10-15 feet above the ground at a reasonable distance from your tent.  Placing food in secure containers and NOT leaving anything out will help ensure that bears don't see your camping space as a buffet.

Please do not engage with the wildlife.  Colorado Parks and Wildlife has some helpful hints.

Located near Estes Park!

Meadow Mountain Ranch

Meadow Mountain Ranch, or "MMR"  is one of our secondary locations for the 2017 Season. Located north of Denver, this beautiful rustic site is located near Estes Park, CO.   Owned and operated by the Girl Scout Council of Colorado, this site enjoys sprawling fields and beautiful views.

DIRECTIONS TO MMR

MMR is a beautiful drive, and fairly easy to find with a few odd turns towards the end.  You can come in via Boulder or via Longmont.  We strongly encourage you to look at the route prior to driving.  The last turnoff is easily missed.

From I-25 (Longmont Route):

  • I-25 to 66 in Longmont

  • Briefly join 36 in Lyons (which is a cute little mountain town that's a speed trap)

  • Follow signs for Allenspark NOT Estes.

  • Be sure you get onto the 7, DO NOT stay on 36. It's the left hand turn onto 7 when you get to the "T" junction in Lyons.

  • 7 is a wacky winding beautiful drive through the moutains

  • Clarabell is the turn off on 7, but it's very hard to see as it's barely marked.

  • You'll be on Clarabell briefly and then make a left onto a dirt road which will be sort of an uphill dirt thing.

  • Stay on that road (101 is what Google calls it) until you see the two story looking building with a massive deck on it. You'll be greeted by a parking attendant to help you get unloaded and then parked.

MMR CABIN INFORMATION
